The 2007 R.I. Council on Legislation mandated the
equalization of the number of Rotarians per zone at +/- 35,400. We had
some membership-needy neighboring zones and push came to shove in Zones
25 and 26.
Effective
1 July 2009, Zone 25 will be re-named Zone 27 and will gain Districts
5730, 5750, 5770, and 5710, while losing Districts 5490, 5500, 5510, and
5580. Zone 26 will become Zone 21B, giving up Districts 5730, 5750,
5770, 5830, and 6200.
The good news is that what's left of our two zones will continue to
meet for GETS/GNTS and the Institute.
As Paul Harris predicted, Rotary is continually changing. We toast the
happy memories of our times together, we welcome our new friends from
5710, and bid adieu to those who march on to new zones.
We sure want to see all of you in Oklahoma City where we will sing Auld
Lang Syne!
Your friend in Rotary,

As a result of the 2007
Council on Legislation mandate and the R.I. Board’s 2008 re-alignment
decision, here below are the implications for the 2009 Governor-Elects
Training (GETS) for our current districts:
Beginning with the Oklahoma City Institute (29
September-4 October 2009), those who will serve as
District Governors in 2010-11 and
2011-12 will attend in their new Zones. Thus the
three Arizona districts will attend the Institute in Monterrey,
Districts 5830 and 6200 will attend the south central Institute in
Tulsa, and District 5580 will attend in
Minneapolis. District 5710 will attend in OKC. The dates and locations
for those Institutes are:
Current Zones New
Zones GETS Dates Location
29-30
30-31 8-9 Sept 09 Tulsa OK
25-26
27-21B 29-30 Sept 09 Oklahoma City OK

28-29 7-8 Oct 09 Minneapolis MN
23-24
25-26 8-11 Oct 09 Monterrey CA
The
Zone Re-alignment will not be easy for any of us. But in the spirit of
Paul Harris, we need to be open to the future and to support equity in
Rotary representation worldwide. The 2007 Council on Legislation gave
us that mandate.
Under the re-alignment, we send off six districts to other zones and
receive one—D-5710. Thus effective July 1, 2009, the new Zone combo of
21B and 27 will be the equivalent of 1.5 zones rather than the two full
zones we were as Zones 25-26. |
